Coated blackout, our main line, has a coating on the back of the fabric and reaches up to 100% light block. Black-yarn blackout has black yarn woven in, with no coating. Both come 2.8–3.2 m wide.

Coated is our main blackout line. Black-yarn suits buyers who want a softer hand with no coating.

The layer that stops the light.

Sealed over the black layer. Three-coat builds finish here.

Fabric fills a container by volume before it reaches the weight limit: a full 20ft of 300 gsm blackout weighs about 12.6 tonnes. Final meterage depends on roll length and packing. For sheer, send your weight and roll length and we calculate the load.

Blackout fabric questions
What is the difference between coated and black-yarn blackout?
Coated blackout has a blackout coating on the back of the fabric and reaches up to 100% light block. Black-yarn blackout has black yarn woven in, with no coating, a softer hand and 90–99% light block. If you need full blackout, choose coated.
Is coated blackout fabric really 100% blackout?
Coated builds reach up to 100% light block. Builds with fewer coating passes give room darkening at 70–90%. Tell us your target and light block is confirmed on the batch.
What are the coating layers?
A white base coat, a black layer and a further coat, applied to the back of the face fabric. 4-layer builds add a silicone or flocked back.
What color is the coated back?
White, grey or black. The face color is separate: choose from the color card or send your own reference.
What weights are available?
Coated blackout runs 250–350 gsm and black-yarn blackout 200–400 gsm. Both come 2.8–3.2 m wide.
Can I buy it by the roll without any sewing?
Yes. Both types are sold by the roll or by the meter, uncut and unsewn.
What is the minimum order for blackout fabric?
Stock fabric starts at 50–100 meters. A custom color starts at 800 meters, which is one full dye lot.
How many meters are on a roll of blackout fabric?
About 50 meters for coated fabric around 300 gsm, and about 60–70 meters for black-yarn fabric around 210 gsm. Lengths vary by batch.
How much coated blackout fits in a 20ft container?
About 15,000 meters of 300 gsm fabric at 2.8 m width. A 40HQ holds about 2.4 times that.
How long does production take?
About 30 days from deposit. Custom-woven face fabric adds 15–20 days.
Can blackout fabric be made waterproof?
Yes. Blackout fabric and sheer can both take a waterproof treatment. Tell us the end use when you ask for a quote.
